CONFIRMATION EXAM FOR 2019:

April 6 for those students who attend Catholic schools are who are homeschooled

April 8 during CCD classes for all students in the St. Catherine of Siena religious education program

 

Sacrament of Confirmation 

to be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena

on October 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm

Bishop Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop for the Military Services, will be the confirming prelate.

 

Sacrament Preparation:

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation occurs in the seventh and eighth grades, and students at St. Catherine are typically confirmed in the fall of the 9th grade year.

If your child has missed a sacrament, please contact us. We are happy to accommodate him or her, according to individual needs.  If one or both parents have not received a sacrament, or would like to learn more about the Catholic Faith, we are happy to help, also.

Confirmation:

Those students who will enter high school in the fall of 2019 and have completed their formal 7th and 8th grade catechesis are candidates for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation on October 10, 2019. 

Required Confirmation Paperwork: DUE JULY 31, 2019

If paperwork is not received by this very firm due date, Confirmation will be delayed until the following fall.

 Required Confirmation paperwork due for all candidates (will not be accepted past the July 31, 2019 due date):

  1. Confirmation Data Form
  2. Baptismal Certificate 
  3. Sponsor Eligibility Form (signed by the sponsor’s pastor, with the seal of the sponsor’s parish)

 Requirements for Confirmation in the 7th Grade Year:

  • Cumulative exam to be given at the end of both the 7th and 8th grade years. The 7th and 8th grade exams will be identical, but may alter from year to year. All students will take the exam at the end of both years. Seventh grade students should use their test results to form a study plan for the summer. Students who do not show mastery of material at the end of the 8th grade year will be asked to re-take the exam over the summer prior to the reception of the Sacrament in the fall of the 9th grade year.
  • A guide "Preparation for Confirmation" with catechism questions has been prepared by Bishop Burbidge's office and is available outside the Office of Religious Education and by clicking the link above. 
  • Summer service project with one-paragraph written summary statement (To be completed in the summers following the 7th and 8th grade years). Paragraphs given to Director of Religious Education in September. Diocesan guidelines suggest that at least 20 hours of service should be performed altogether.
  • Attendance at the Mass of Confirmation (at the beginning of the 8th grade year), and help with hosting the reception held immediately afterwards.

Requirements for Confirmation in the 8th Grade Year:

  • Mastery of material (prior to Confirmation) on a cumulative exam to be given at the end of both the 7th and 8th grade years. The 7th and 8th grade exams will be identical, but may alter from year to year. All students will take the exam at the end of both years. 8th grade students who do not show mastery of material will be asked study further and re-take the exam over the summer prior to the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • A guide "Preparation for Confirmation" with catechism questions has been prepared by Bishop Burbidge's office and is available outside the Office of Religious Education and by clicking on the link above.
  • Summer service project with written summary statement (Both in the summers following the 7th and 8th grade years), due in September at the first Confirmation seminar class, or to be sent electronically to the Director of Religious Education. Diocesan guidelines suggest that at least 20 hours of service should be performed altogether.
  • Interview with Confirmation sponsor and report write-up due at the first Confirmation seminar class.
  • Scheduled individual interview with Father Pokorsky (Interviews will be scheduled beginning in May of 2019, and will continue through early fall, prior to Confirmation.)
  • Participation in Confirmation seminar: September 19, 2019
  • Participation in Confirmation retreat: September 28, 2019
  • Attendance by confirmandi and sponsor (or someone taking the place of the sponsor) at a rehearsal prior to the Mass of Confirmation, October 9, 2019

CONFIRMATION EXAM DATES:

The confirmation exam will be given to all 7th and 8th grade CCD students preparing for Confirmation on Monday, April 8, 2019 during class time.

The confirmation exam will given to all students who receive religious instruction outside of the CCD program on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 9:00 am in Bishop Justs Hall.
