Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD)
The catechists at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church volunteer their time to assist parents with the religious instruction of their children.
Of course, the family provides the first and most important introduction to the Faith. Participation must always include the fulfillment of our obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation.
In addition, our good Christian example through the works of mercy, participation in the Sacraments, a formation in prayer, and a conscientious effort to continue to learn our Faith alongside the children are all necessary elements of a vibrant Faith life for every member of the family.
Children in first grade through high school who attend public or private, non-Catholic schools are required to attend catechetical instruction during a one-hour class, one day each week during the school year.
Classes for 1st through 8th grades are offered:
- Monday evening, 6:40 to 7:45 and
- Tuesday afternoon, 4:55 to 6:00 pm.
High school sessions are held:
- Monday evening, 6:40 to 7:45.
For the 2016-2017 school year, classes began on September 19 and will end on May 16, 2017.
Sacrament preparation is a two-year process. Preparation for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion occurs during the first and second grades. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation occurs in the seventh and eighth grades.
If your child has missed a Sacrament, please contact us. We are happy to accommodate him or her, according to individual needs. If you, your spouse, or other relative have either not received a Sacrament (or would like to learn more about the Catholic faith) we are happy to help you, also.
For the 2016-2017 school year, students received the Sacrament of Confirmation on November 11, 2016. The eighth-grade class is now preparing for their Confirmation to be held in the fall of 2017. Important forms for Confirmation candidates are available below.
First Penance and First Holy Communion
The date for First Penance is March 25, 2017 after the 8:30 am Mass. First Holy Communion will be celebrated at the noon Mass on May 21, 2017.
A meeting for all parents of children receiving these two Sacraments will be held on March 2, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in Bishop Justs Hall. At least one parent from each family is asked to attend.
First Holy Communion Data Forms are due for each child who will be receiving these Sacraments this spring. Forms should be turned in no later than March 2. If your child was not baptized at St. Catherine of Siena, a copy of the Baptismal certificate must accompany the form. Otherwise, the date of Baptism on the form will suffice.
