Religious Education

Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD)

The catechists at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church joyfully volunteer their time to assist parents with the religious instruction of their children.  Of course, parents provide the most important introduction to the Faith as the first and greatest teachers.

“Indeed the Catholic Church has made this clear again and again, noting in documents such as Gravissimum Educationis that parents are the primary educators of their children, the ones who bear the greatest responsibility in the moral, spiritual, and intellectual formation of their children.

…In order for your child truly to know and love his Catholic Faith, in order for him to become a good, kind, virtuous adult who knows and lives his life according to God’s truth, he needs to see you live the Faith as well. He needs to learn about the Faith from you, and he needs to live it with you.” (from Faith and Life Parent Guide)

The catechists will always teach that our most important participation and obligation is Mass attendance on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation.

Sacrament Preparation

Sacrament preparation is a two-year process.  Preparation for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion occurs during the first and second grades. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation occurs in the seventh and eighth grades.

If your child has missed a Sacrament, please contact us. We are happy to accommodate him or her, according to individual needs.  If you, your spouse, or other relative have either not received a Sacrament (or would like to learn more about the Catholic faith) we are happy to help you, also.

Those students who enter high school in the Fall of 2017 and have completed their formal 7th and 8th grade catechesis will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on October 26, 2017 at 7:00 pm.

Confirmandi will be required to attend three classes in the fall prior to Confirmation on: September 21, October 5 and October 12 from 6:30 to 7:45pm. Interviews with Father Pokorsky will be scheduled during these sessions.

Also, there will be a day-long mandatory Confirmation retreat held on Saturday, September 30 beginning with the 8:30 am Mass. Lunch will be provided. More details are forthcoming. Please check the bulletin announcements.

Rehearsal for Confirmation will be held on Tuesday evening, October 24 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Confirmation candidates and sponsors are required to attend. If a sponsor is not able to attend, please have a stand-in accompany the Confirmation candidate.

All Confirmation paperwork is due before September 1.

Important forms for Confirmation candidates are available below.

First Penance and First Holy Communion

A First Holy Communion Data Form is due for each child who will be receiving the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion in the spring of 2018. If your child was not baptized at St. Catherine of Siena, a copy of the Baptismal certificate must accompany the form. Otherwise, the date of Baptism on the form will suffice.

The 2017-2018 dates for the First Communion Parents Meeting, First Penance and First Holy Communion are forthcoming. The website will be updated when the dates are available. Please also check the weekly parish bulletins.
